Dental School? Yes or No?

Today I would like to share my experience on how my life in dental school

First of all, kita nak cerita kenapa nak jadi doktor gigi. p/s you will be asked this question so many times once you enter dental school. For me, my family is the reason. Actually my sister is a dentist so why not we have the same title? So when senior ask why you want to be a dentist? My answer is because my sister is a dentist

Once you enter dental school, you will be very busy. Trust me. I just finished my first sem, and now i am having my semester break, thats why i got time to write this. 

Our class will start early in the morning which is at 8 a.m. and finished at 6 p.m. We will be very thankful even if the class starts at 8.30, we really appreciate the 30 minutes late. 8.00 a.m. until 1.00 p.m., it will be classes for faculty course and 2.00 p.m. until 6.00 p.m., classes for university course.

What are the differences between faculty and university course? For faculty course, you will learn all the things you need to be a dentist (anatomy, pharmacology, etc) but for university course, it will be TITAS, ELC, computer science and PBSM. It is so exhausting, physically and mentally. Kalau terlelap dalam kelas tu biasa, tapi janganlah tidur terus nanti diri sendiri yang rugi. 

I will explain more detail about the faculty course.

We have 9 modules for Foundation of Medical & Oral Sciences (DFS401);

Sem 1 : GM, MSK, H&L

Sem 2 : CVS & RESP

Sem 3 : GIT & ENDOCRINE

Sem 4 : GUT & CNS

‼Do noted that Oral Science Module (Module 10) akan diselit-selitkan antara MSK, H&L dan CVS.

Hal ini disebabkan oleh sistem pembelajaran baru yang dilaksanakan pada tahun 2015 iaitu  Sistem-Integrated dimana subjek Basic Medical Science (BMS - Anatomy, Physiology, Biochemistry, Pathology, Microbiology & Pharmacology) dan subjek Oral Science digabungkan menjadi Foundation of Medical & Oral Science (DFS401). Sebelum ni diasingkan.

Untuk sem 1, it will be only theory. Masuk sem 2 baru masuk sim lab untuk carving gigi. 

Regarding Test & Examination:📚

We have:

1. Progress Test (PT)

2. Final / End Semester Exam (ESE)

3. Professional Exam (Pro Exam)

🌸 Progress Test (PT) 🌸

🤗 Everytime habis sahaja setiap module akan ada PT sebelum belajar module yang baru.

For example;

🌸 In semester 1, you guys belajar GM, MSK and H&L.

🌸 Habis je module GM terus akan ada PT. Selesai sahaja PT, baru you guys akan belajar module MSK.

🌸 Dan begitulah seterusnya, Habis MSK ada PT. After that, sambung belajar H&L sampai habis and PT.

🤗 So, total ada 9 kali PT untuk Sem 1 – Sem 4.

🤗 Soalan berbentuk Multiple Choice Question (MCQ) - jawab “True or False” je. Nampak senang tapi tunggu jelah nanti you guys experience sendiri.

🤗 PT ni dilaksanakan melalui online (sistem baru yang dilaksanakan pada tahun 2017, sebelum ni on paper)

🤗 60 Questions. Every question consists of 5 answers which you guys kene jawab either true or false.

🌸 So, total expect jawapan 60 x 5 = 300 answers in 1 hour 15 minutes

 

🌺 Final/End Semester Exam (ESE) 🌺

🐳Every end of semester you’ll be seating for ESE. We have 3 papers consist of 5 types of questions:

🌺 Paper 1:

- Single Answer Question (SAQ)

- Multiple Choice Question (MCQ)

🌺 Paper 2:

- Short Essay Question (SEQ)

- Modified Essay Question (MEQ)

🌺 Paper 3:

- Objective Structured Practical Examination (OSPE)

🐳Subjek apa yang masuk untuk ESE?🐳

- semua subjek yang you belajar the whole semester.

- contoh: 

Sem 1 - GM, MSK, H&L

Sem 2 - CVS & RESP

🌺 Paper 1:

🌺 SAQ (Stand alone)

🐳 Objective questions. Choose the best answer.

🌺 MCQ (Integrated)

🐳 True or False questions. Same like PT.

🌺 Paper 2:

🌺 SEQ (Stand Alone)

🐳 7 Soalan esei. Setiap soalan 20 markah.

🐳 Factual question.

🌺 MEQ (integrated)

🐳 3 Soalan esei. Setiap soalan 20 markah

🐳 Case-study question

🌺 Paper 3:

🌺 OSPE (Stand Alone)

🐳 Diadakan di lab.

🐳 Ada 20 stations termasuk 5 station rehat.

🐳 Setiap station disediakan sehelai kertas soalan bermarkah 10 markah.

🐳 Masa yang diberi untuk setiap station adalah 3 minit sahaja. 

🐳 Setiap 3 minit loceng akan berbunyi, dengar sahaja loceng terus bergerak ke next station. X boleh stay sbb orang lain pon nk pergi station tu jgk.

🐳 Kalau x dpt jawab within 3 minit tu, xpayah nangis or risau. MOVE ON je! Sbb you ada lagi station yg nk kene jawab. 

🐙 Professional Exam (Pro Exam) 🐙

🌻 Sama mcm ESE. You’ll be seating for Pro Exam during end of Y2.

🌻 Bezanya dgn ESE, Pro Exam masuk semua module. YES! SEMUA MODULE, 1 – 9 ‼

🌻 Pro Exam adalah penentu you boleh naik year atau x. 

🌻 Kalau lulus boleh naik Y3, kalau gagal x naiklh Y3.

‼ Take note ‼

♠ PT & ESE adalah carry mark utk Pro Exam

♠ Stand alone - subjek seperti Anatomy, Physiology dsb tidak bercampur antara satu sama lain dalam satu soalan

Soalan 1 - Anatomy sahaja

Soalan 2 - Physiology sahaja

♠ Integrated - subjek seperti Anatomy, Physiology dsb boleh bercampur antara satu sama lain dalam satu soalan

🍎 Contoh:

Soalan 1 - Anatomy + Physiology

Soalan 2 - Microbiology + Pharmacology

Soalan 3 - Biochemistry + Pathology
